Resting on God

Visit with Marianne Aug 09 013I am often asked how we go about trusting God. Do we make our request and sit back and wait for God to deliver? Or do we stay busy doing what we are doing and hope for the best? How do we know what to do?

I have observed that faith is an act of balance. Affirmative prayer is not about beseeching God to bring us our good. Prayer is the process of getting to know God. It is our opportunity to align ourselves with the qualities of God such as love, peace, joy, abundance and freedom. Meditation, quiet time, spiritual reading and prayer are ways to maintain our connection. When we become aware of the awesome beauty of nature, it reminds us of God. When we get a nurturing call from a loving friend, we receive God’s Love. When we say Grace before a meal, we are remembering God.

Our talents, abilities, skills are all gifts from God. As we express them in the world we are training ourselves to receive God’s gifts.

Here is where the balance part comes in. It is up to us to express our gifts in the world. When we have a goal, it is up to us to follow through on the steps needed to achieve that goal. That’s the work on the physical level, or the body of our affairs. At the same time we give thanks for the freedom we have to share our gifts, for the joy of serving others. That practice is training the mind to think grateful thoughts.

The spirit part of ourselves is engaged when we take a few moments each day to put our feet up and gaze at the wonder around us and give thanks. Even five minutes. The to-do list will wait. Take the time to give thanks for the awesomeness of God and the gracious gifts we are receiving each day. The attitude of gratitude will help unite us with the desires of the heart. The restful time will renew our spirit, mind and body. And it will deepen our faith with God.

Oh, I almost forgot. Prayer is always answered. On God’s time, not our time. So you might as well take some time to rest.

P.S. Yes, those are my feet in the photo as I rested this weekend at the Oregon coast. I highly recommend it!

Fun in the Sun

Visit with Marianne Aug 09 056My experience of the Oregon coast is usually rain and wind. So I was really happy to spend a weekend in the beautiful sunshine and no wind! It was a great weekend visiting my friend Marianne and enjoying fresh air and sunshine. We happened upon some beach dwellers when out for a morning walk. So glad I had my camera!!

Releasing Scarcity

Bahamas Vacation 003Do you know what you want? I gave a workshop recently and watched the participants struggle trying to identify what it is they want. Most of the time women don’t know or they have a hard time articulating their desires. Do I dare ask? What if I don’t get it? Do I really deserve to ask for this? Good girls are trained from an early age not to be greedy or want too much. So we don’t ask for anything. We often stop ourselves from holding a vision for the future. The lack of vision actually creates an aura of confusion and doubt.

I’ve noticed a direct link between a belief in limitation and making good or sound choices. When there is limitation, making a choice to purchase something is excruciating. There is always lurking the fear that I will spend too much or purchase the wrong item. Wanting something and evaluating the ability to actually get it can take days or weeks to make a decision.

Getting out of the belief in scarcity takes humility and patience and willingness to change. Here are some tools:

1. Willingness to observe old patterns of belief.
Write down your beliefs as you discover them. Don’t judge them. Just observe your thoughts. Once we recognize them, we can begin the process to retrain the mind.

2. Willingness to be in financial integrity.
Is your checkbook balanced? Bills paid on time? Do you make regular contributions to charity? Be honest and do an evaluation to assess your financial integrity. Afraid to look? Connect with a financial advisor to help take you through the process.

3. Willingness to receive.
Practice receiving. A complement. A gift. A smile. Expand your envelope of receiving. Then when you receive, give gracious thanks.

4. Willingness to not judge yourself.
The next time you find yourself judging a thought or action, stop and say That’s not the truth about me. I am a divine expression of love. Be patient. Change takes time.

The Go-Giver

go giver
This is a great little book with a powerful message. A very clever way to talk about universal principles. I found it to be a great message for anyone on their spiritual journey. The authors not only give the principle but demonstrate how to put it into action. Great read!

Save the Sunshine (for another day!)

Three days of hot is one thing but three days above 100 degrees is ridiculous! I woke up wishing I could save some of the sunshine for another day. Wouldn’t it be nice to have it on file and request it during the rainy season? I can dream about it….
